Mathematics

The Mathematics curriculum at Catherine McAuley reflects current best practices and research in the field of Mathematics teaching.

Our school is privileged to be part of two National Mathematic Projects which ensures we are at the cutting edge of best practice.

Our Math program is a balance between conceptual understanding, procedural fluency and the application of Mathematics concepts.

Students at our school are provided with enriched learning experiences that are student centered, active and engaging.

Your child will be included in a variety of teaching and learning practices including repetition and practice, active questioning, dialogue and problem based learning.

It is our aim for your child to become confident and positive about their ability to use Mathematics as they develop and investigate solutions to everyday and real life problems.

We have enthusiastic staff who are attending many workshops and learning opportunities connected to the Leading Aligned Numeracy Development (LAND) Project and the joint State and Federal National Partnerships Program.

Our school was chosen to benefit from the historic investment by the Federal Government of more than $460 million to boost our school’s numeracy standards.

This means we have a dedicated member of staff who works exclusively in the area of numeracy.

Their role is to focus on the key areas of numeracy and Mathematics, mentoring and coaching of teachers and the effective use of student performance information to deliver sustainable improvement in numeracy outcomes, especially for those students who are falling behind.
