Health and Physical Education
Welcome to Catherine McAuley ~ Health and Physical Education
The Catherine McAuley School staff believes that regular participation in physical activity during childhood improves students’ learning, strengthens self-esteem, builds their understanding of teamwork and improves general physical activity and fitness levels.
Our school Physical Education program is comprehensive, sequentially developed and includes many opportunities for students to develop Fundamental Movement Skills.
Themed Physical Education lessons with our Specialised Teacher are programmed for each year level throughout the year achieving a balance of activities from all movement strands.
At Catherine McAuley School we see the development of Fundamental Movement Skills as an important step towards ensuring lifelong involvement in physical activity.
We allocate a minimum of 120 minutes of planned physical activity per week for all students.
Same year level classes regularly conduct fitness sessions together focusing on long distance running, skipping, dancing, fitness circuits and ball games.
Students are also encouraged to practice sporting skills in games and activities during recess and lunch breaks. Classes are provided with a range of sporting equipment and a number of staff members conduct sporting games during recess and lunch times.
As the children at Catherine McAuley School move through the middle and upper primary age group they are given opportunities to represent the school in full day sports carnivals.
All students are allocated to a House Team when they begin at Catherine McAuley.
