Play
Welcome to Catherine McAuley ~ Play based Learning
Play Based Learning
We know that creative activity is an integral part of your child’s emotional, social, physical and intellectual development.
Your child will be given the opportunity to explore their creative potential through play and will be encouraged to become an independent learner.
Creative activity stimulates a childs’ use of language to explain their play and to develop and absorb the language around them during creative activity.
Children are able to come to terms with their environment while stimulating eagerness to learn, curiosity in the world around them and creativity.
Play based learning is one way through which other areas of the curriculum can be explored. Activities can cater for your child’s individual needs as well as group or whole class needs.
At Catherine McAuley School your child will experience a wide variety of learning activities during their early years. Our Junior Primary team believe children learn best when:
- They feel important
- They care about themselves and others
- They are stimulated in active learning
- They feel safe, confident and achieve success
- Their developing self-esteem is nurtured
- They feel challenged and able to take safe risks
- They develop strong social and communication skills to interact with others
- They have plenty of opportunity to practice their learning
The aims of the activity sessions are to help your child:
- Develop their gross motor skills
- Improve their self concept and confidence
- Develop their skills needed in the playground and improve ability to become part of friendship groups
- Improve their listening skills
